Thesis Theme Review

by kirkeberg on July 16, 2010

Thesis for WordPress?

It’s a premium theme that continues to get better and better.

The Thesis Theme created by Chris Pearson impresses, enamors and befuddles me. That’s because while I may be enamored, I’m really not an expert.

I do like to tinker with the way this and other blogs look. I’m not a coder, so I learn as I go. Thesis makes that easy. I often get myeslf in trouble along the way), I rely heavily on the Thesis Theme ‘s user forum. Here’s another cool thing about Thesis. There are literally hundreds of tutorials and assistance posts to make almost any moderation you would like to make.

I haven’t run into anything else that is user modifiable that it is actually exciting to use. It reminds me of what Alfred Hitchcock used to call plastic material.

It molds to many purposes.

Over time, I will share with my readers some of the places I have found on the web that offer tutorials and new ideas for this great tool.

Are there times when this them makes me crazy. Absolutely. I see that as part of the creative learning curve. Stay tuned to my blog as I DIY my way into gore and glory! Both?

I don’t know about you, but blogging is one of the things I love to do (even when racking my brain about what to write about.

When you try this theme, it will allow you to be as creative (or not creative – It will stand alone, too) as you like with your blog. The whole platform is changeable and malleable — you can turn you blog into a website, or you can simply create a website using the Thesis theme.

It has truly blurred the lines between blogging and websites.

So, if you haven’t puchased your theme yet, click on any of the ads here or below. What you are still sitting there? Do this. You will be glad you did!

Writing for Search Engines

What is SEO? Does it REALLY Have to be So Complicated?

Will SEO Scribe be the app for that?

I’m new at this blogging thing. And I’ve been doing it going on two years. I think I’m beginning to see a scratch on the surface, but I’m not really sure.

While this blog is new, I have been writing This Old Brain for a while, and have a new project called AngerFlex. The big problem I keep slamming my forehead against is getting noticed.

There are places that will tell you how to do that. One that I have subscribed to for a long time is SEOMoz. Take a look at it. They have a shitload of great information. Trouble is, it goes about seventeen feet over my head. I’m 62 bloody years old. How much of this stuff do I have to learn?

How much do I want to learn?

That’s the real question.

I read a few other blogs on the subject, too. Some are better than others. And by better, I mean easier to understand. I’ll write about some of them next time.

Here is what I do know. In order to get notices at all, unless you know a shitload of people, is to rely on those creepy-crawly Google robots (and their counterparts).  That’s where the SEO stuff comes in. Matter of fact, that’s what is, the thing of nightmares – Search Engine Optimization.

The ‘seo algorithms’ as they are called, from what I understand, have more twists and turns than the IRS code.

If you are a blogger, you may know that CopyBlogger makes SEO a little easier to understand. (Okay, maybe I am sucking up a little, so shoot me)

So,here’s the deal for me-

I DO NOT, IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM, WANT TO HAVE TO LEARN SEARCH ENGINE ANYTHING

I really do want an app for that. In blogtalk, that’s a plugin.

Okay, so I am lazy; I don’t have the energy to expend.

I just want to write my damn blogs and get noticed occasionally. That’s as occasionally as is humanly possible.

I mentioned AngerFlex above. That is a project I’ve been working on for nearly a year now – speed is not one of my many qualities – as a membership site I am developing with the help of Teaching Sells. TS is another Clark project. So, my humble opinion is that he only puts his mark on quality products.

Okay, enough sucking up.

If AngerFlex is going to fly, I need to build traffic there. No doubt about that. That’s wher this damn SEO comes in again.

Meet Scribe

So, here comes this new plugin, SEO Scribe. With it, can analyze a post in a couple of minutes. Scribe will tell me how I rank in the eyes of the Google gods; it tells me where my SEO is naughty, and where it’s nice; and it shoots me a whole bunch of keywords that relate to the post I am writing.

Now, blog traffic, that’s what I’m talking about.

Brian has come up with a great article relating to SEO and this plugin – SEO Scribe. In it Brian puts his copywriting and SEO wisdom to use. Good stuff.

So, here’s what I got.  There’s a link to the article below. I’ve already read it. It’s got my (meager as it may be) enthusiastic stamp of “oh, yeah, this is cool.”

Click it now and read it. See what you think.

You don’t like it, no loss. You’ll learn something valuable about getting noticed. It’s a jungle out there.

When’s the Last Time You Questioned the Rules?

May 3, 2010

Questioning the Rules What does it mean to be successful? To be rich? To live forever? To be famous? Frankly, I’m not sure what it means. I do know this. It is open to question. I hooked up with this program by Johnny Truant (is that his real name?) and Lee Stranahan. So far, listening [...]
